For the past several months, I have been trying to eat healthier. I’ve done reasonably well. I’ve lost some weight…gained some weight…lost some weight again. You know the roller coaster I’m referring to. I’ve done lots of reading and have learned some very valuable things from both online and research and through talking to others who are much more knowledgeable on the topic of healthy eating than I am. I am thankful for what I have learned and for those who take the time to teach me.
To be honest, I haven’t stepped on a scale for a couple of months. I used to obsess with the scale. When I’d get back into healthy eating, I’d step on the scale EVERY morning…and sometimes that evening! I was always wanting to make sure the numbers on the scale were going down instead of up so that I could “fix” whatever caused me to gain 0.2 pounds since that morning or the previous day. It was unhealthy and I stopped doing it. So much so that I stopped stepping on the scale altogether back around Christmas time. That will all change soon as my DietBet game begins this Sunday and I’ll need to weigh-in for that game.
So, after trying to eat healthier for the past few months and having my weight go up and down before I stopped stepping on the scale, I have decided that the time is right to add exercise to my life. I’ve done some exercising at home recently, having done Professor Vegaleo’s 21 Day Fitness Challenge For Beginners or Advanced and it was awesome! Darren (Professor Vegaleo) is a super motivator and his videos are fantastic! The challenge is free and if you’re looking for a great workout to do at home over a 21 day period, I suggest you visit his website and take the 21 Day Fitness Challenge. You can find it by clicking here. Here’s the Day One video as a sneak peek!
So, having said that, I feel like I need to find something I can do that gets me out of the house and gets me excited to get moving. In warmer weather, I love to go walking and I look forward to those warmer day walks very soon, however, in the meantime, I have decided that it’s time to join the gym.
I can look out my back window of my house and see the gym. From my door to the door of the gym, it’s a mere 1/2 kilometer (0.3 miles for my American friends) so there is no excuse not to go to the gym now that I’m back to work and can afford a gym membership.
Our gym is great! It’s got a huge pool, sauna, hot tub, workout equipment such as treadmills, recumbent bikes, weight machines and free weights. They also have exercise classes and other interesting exercise groups for things such as Kettlebell. I’m signing up for my 1 year membership on Wednesday of this week and I can’t wait!
I want to be in good shape to do lots of outdoor activities with loved ones and friends this summer and this is a great step in the right direction. I have several friends who are qualified to instruct me on what to do in the gym so as to maximize the benefits of my time spent in the gym and to make sure I don’t injure myself.
I’m sure I’ll look quite out of place for awhile at the gym but I’m ready to take things to the next level and start building some muscle (and burn some fat) and to improve my cardio.
It’s scary…but very exciting and I can’t wait to start hitting the gym later this week!
